Low maintenance house plants

Low Maintenance house plants are a great way to get a little bit of nature into your home. Though this is not specifically helping the environment, it does help your indoor home environment, as the plants help air circulation and quality.

The air quality in your house can be very poor, as this is a place where you may spend a lot of time it could really benefit your health by having a few of our green friends around. Indoor air is often more polluted than outdoor air, mainly due to a lack of circulation and that some materials inside the home give off chemicals.

Indoor plants have quite a number of benefits. They remove Carbon Dioxide and product Oxygen. They also have been proven to remove a number of toxins that exist in home environments. Certain plants are better at this than others. Another less obvious benefit is that they are known to reduce noise (such as traffic outside) and even indoor noise (Such as humming noises etc. from digital appliances). Plants have been known to reduce stress, increase productivity and be beneficial to health in a home or office environment.

Now if you are considering putting some plants in your home, but you know that you do not have much time, or know that you forget to water plants. It is a good idea to get plants that are low maintenance.

Personally I have Aloe Vera (Very low maintenance), Cacti (VLM), Succulents (VLM) and Ivy (Medium maintenance). Here are some photos of the indoor plants I have collected so far!

Aloe Vera, Happy with a decent amount of sun with watering every 2-3 weeks. Clears air of certain toxins and the gel inside the leaves can be used to help healing of burns and cuts.

Indoor trailing Ivy (English). Has been known to reduce mould and other toxins in home environments. Note: The sap and leaves are poisonous so be wary around children and animals. likes sunny position and fairly frequent watering (Once a week).

Succulent, Jade "Stone Crop". Succulents, though are not known to help with toxins in the home, grow well with plenty of light and little attention. They are so easy to look after as they are very sparingly watered.

English ivy, again the same as the Ivy listed above.

Cacti and Succulent garden. Easy to maintain. They like a sunny position and very little water.
I hope you have enjoyed the virtual tour of my house plants! There are many types of house plants that are great for the indoor environment and do not take much maintenance.
