Buzzy Bees and butterflys!

Hello everyone,

Today I am going to talk about Bees and Butterfly's ;). I cannot stress enough how important our bees and butterflys are, and they are suffering. The main reason for this is that their habitats are being destroyed. But there is something you could do to help, and its simple.Whether you have a big, small or no garden at all it is possible to help out the bees.

One of the main things that I have done (as I have a decent sized garden). Over the last few years, I have invested in bee and butterfly friendly plants. As well as doing this, I have been clever with my purchases, making sure that I have plants that flower at different times of the year, so that there is always something flowering in my garden for the bees. The Budleia, a lovely purple flowering plant that the butterflys love, has not quite flowered yet. But below are some photos of the plants that are currently flowering in my garden. It is also really important if you have natural, early flowering plants like crocuses, dandelions and bluebells that you allow them to flower as they are an early source for the bees.

Beautiful Azalea flowering.

These are wild Forget Me Nots! Which flower for quite a long time and look lovely in a border.

I am not 100% sure what this plant is, but the flowers are lovely.
These red flowers have just come out, this plant is a form of sage (Baby sage). The bees absolutely love this.

If you don't have a garden, but have a balcony or even a windowsill you can grow plants easily. Though having plants indoors on windowsills does not help the bees, it will help your internal environment and it brings the outdoors in. There are always ways to do things, no matter what your living circumstances are.

Finally, another thing that you can do in your garden (which I have yet to do) is a watering station for bees and butterflys. This can be easily achieved, as Bees and butterflys struggle to find safe water, it is a really good thing for you to have in your garden. All you need to achieve this is a dish and stones to line it, then you fill it with water so that half the stones are below the water. This allows bees and butterflys to safely land to drink without the risk of falling in the water.

The only problem with this method of a watering station, is that the water and stones may form algae quickly. They should ideally be cleaned when this happens and the water replaced. I will do more research on some easy ways of having a flowing water version of this to avoid the algae problem.

Thank you for reading :)
